River level

The river level is looking good. It was the highest it's been all summer last week, and it looks like Ike will be delivering some more water tomorrow. Counting down the days!

Does anyone have a Bocce set to bring?

We have one, but it seems silly to bring it from California in our luggage.

The beds are queen sized, not full

Sorry for the misinformation.

Also, my mother has asked me to tell people how to post comments to this blog. What you do is click where it says comments right over here to the lower right of this post. Then follow the instructions.

First Game at Rio Frio: What to call Mark's Melanie

This game was suggested by Melanie Rummel, who apparently hasn't yet come up with an A#1 name for Melanie, who no doubt doesn't want to be confused with Melanie, when someone yells "MELANIE" or whispers "mmmmmMel a nie?" of there is work for Melanie to do or fun for Melanie to have or compliments for Melanie to get . . . . What?? Compliments???  Oh, never mind, Melanie will take 'em ALL!

See what I mean?  This will be an IMPORTANT game.  Put your thinking caps on, 'Cannies!

Stuff to bring

The beds in the houses are not dressed, so you will need to bring sheets, blankets and pillows. I think they are all full-sized beds. You will probably also want to consider bringing these items:
• Rafts for lounging in the river
• Collapsable camp chairs (also for lounging in the river)
• Towels
• Board games
• Yard games (they have a horseshoe pit)
• Your favorite music on CD, laptop, iPod, or MP3 CD
• River shoes or sandals (the river bottom is mainly rock)
• Gloves for protecting your hands when building rock dams in the stream
• Goggles or a mask (the water is very clear)
• Snorkel
• Flippers
• Flashlight
• Insect repellant
• A backpack or other bag that can get wet

Meals

For the meals, Kelly and I have been planning the menus, and Tom and Alaire will be buying the supplies. We will just ask for help in preparation and cleanup, and we'll split up the grocery tab. Two important things to remember regarding food and beverages in Concan are that Concan is in a dry county, and the nearest HEB is about 30 minutes away. For this reason, Kelly and I have been planning our meals to include as many shelf-stable ingredients as possible to save fridge space for BEER! :-)

Map to BENT River Retreat

We're all so excited about Concan! It's going to be a blast. I will keep posing updates to this blog, so bookmark it and check it often. Here is a map of the where the BENT River Retreat is located.
